Liverpool FC players test their football skills blindfolded

24 December 2010

We challenged four Liverpool FC players to complete 10 keepy-ups and a penalty shoot out whilst blind-folded. Find out how they got on.

Stepping up to the challenge
Fernando Torres, Jamie Carragher, Danny Wilson and Dani Pacheco had three attempts to try and test their football skills blindfolded.

Kicking a football at goal sounds easy enough, especially for a professional footballer that’s done it hundreds of times before, but they all struggled.

Torres, Carragher and Wilson only managed a total of eight keepy-ups in a row, while Pacheco completed just five.

And the penalty shoot wasn’t much better!

Watch the video to see the players in action for yourself.

Torres said: "Unless you try it you can't really understand how hard it is. It's amazing what Seeing is Believing are doing for people”.

Watching these players trying to complete skills that they usually find easy, highlights some of the difficulties people face completing everyday tasks after losing their sight and the importance of preventing avoidable blindness.

Reaching out to the blind community

Liverpool Football Club’s engagement with Seeing is Believing doesn’t stop there.

At half-time during Liverpool FC’s fixture with Chelsea in November, four visually-impaired children participated in a penalty shoot-out in front of a packed Anfield stadium.

With every goal scored by the kids, £1,000 was donated to Seeing is Believing. Standard Chartered also contributed a further £1,000. A total of £5,000 was raised.

There was fantastic support in the stadium for the children who fulfilled many a Liverpool FC fan’s wildest dream -to score a goal in front of the Kop!
