Seeing is Believing wins GBC Health’s "Business Action on Health" award for community investment
The award is provided for community-focused programmes tackling any area of health and wellness. This year is the first time that the awards applications have been opened up to programmes tackling health issues other than HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
“This year’s award winning and commended companies embrace GBCHealth’s expanded mandate and showcase an unprecedented diversity of innovative private sector solutions to global health problems,” said John Tedstrom, President and CEO of GBCHealth. “Collectively, these programs demonstrate the unique power of business to help overcome our world’s most pressing health challenges.”
What SiB won
Overcoming stiff competition, SiB was awarded winner in the community investment category based on the long-term success of the partnership between Standard Chartered, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) and partner eye-care charities. Since 2003, SiB has reached 28 million people with programmes to help tackle avoidable blindness, contributed to over 2.8 million sight restorations and helped train 68,000 health workers. With the pledge to raise USD 100m by 2020, we hope that this award will help raise the profile of Seeing is Believing and help us raise more funds to tackle avoidable blindness globally.
