Sightsavers chosen for Financial Times season appeal
22 February 2012
The Financial Times (FT) Seasonal Appeal raised over £3.3 million (US$5.18 million), for one of our partners, Sightsavers. With a matching donation from Standard Chartered, they raised a total of US$1.94 million.
The FT appeal has helped raise awareness on the lack of affordable eye-care available in the developing world. They featured several stories on Sightsavers projects- including our Kolkata Urban Comprehensive Eye Care Project which began in 2010 and aims to tackle avoidable blindness in the Kolkata slums.
Seeing through to 2020
Raising awareness on avoidable blindness is important. Without immediate and effective action, the number of blind people in the world will nearly double by 2020. Through sustainable eye-care projects, we aim to reach 50 million people by 2020, supporting the global initiative for the elimination of avoidable blindness: ‘VISION 2020: The right to sight’.
If you would like to help restore someone’s sight, please donate.
