Eye-care in Brazil
50,000 blind youths
Every year in Brazil, half a million people are in need of cataract surgery
Yet despite Brazil’s growing economy, the country’s poorest suffer from common barriers when it comes to accessing eye care namely logistical, financial and social barriers.
In terms of childhood blindness, one of the main causes in Brazil is retinopathy of prematurity - a blindness affecting premature babies. If treated quickly, permanent damage can be avoided.
