Eye-care in China
6.6 million blind
There are 6.6 million blind people living in China and 18 per cent of the world's blind.
Diabetic retinopathy is one cause of avoidable blindness in China. Treatment can reduce the risk for visual loss by more than 90 per cent. With over 3,000 diabetics in China’s four major cities, creating awareness of the disease is vital.
Access to eye-care is a key issue for those living in rural China. Around 80% of health-care services are located in urban areas.
