About the project
We've joined forces with Operation Eyesight Universal to bring eye treatment and blindness prevention education to urban slums in Delhi and Hyderabad.
People living in the Fateh Nagar slum in Hyderabad and Shahabad slum in Delhi don't have access to high quality eye care, and there's also little awareness about the free eye care services on offer.
In total, about 1,750 inhabitants suffer from some form of avoidable blindness. High levels of cataract and uncorrected refractive errors are also common.
Our aim
This project will focus on treating existing eye abnormalities and on blindness prevention.
Tens of thousands of people in the slums will be educated on nutrition, general health and eye care awareness.
Over the next 4 years we aim to:
- Screen 64,620 adults and children,
- Provide 3,300 children with vitamin supplements to protect against Vitamin A blindness,
- Educate 6,600 mothers on nutrition,
- Train 1650 volunteers and vision care staff to deliver adequate eye care treatment.
