Sight allowed Mohammed to carry on with the job he loves

My story

Mohammed thought he needed glasses. What he actually needed was immediate surgery.

Mohammed is an entertaining and lively 74 year old. He has been a tailor for over 35 years but his eye sight was fading. He was finding his job more and more difficult, forcing him to stop for a while and get his eyes examined.

How we helped
Thinking he just needed glasses, Mohammed went to an eye camp run by our partners, Sightsavers, to have his eyes tested. His examination revealed that he actually had cataract and referred to the Colombo Eye Hospital to have an operation the next day. “I was very worried, but felt reassured when I saw the other patients coming out of surgery” said Mohammed.

Mohammed was visited at his home to check that the operation had worked. Not only can he now see clearly, but he is already excited about being a tailor again and continuing in the job that he’s been doing for nearly half his life.
