Ken is no longer searching for the light
My story
When Ken’s sight wasn’t improving, his mother realised that something was wrong.
It wasn’t until Ken was a month old that his mother Rose noticed something white in his eye. She began to worry that something could be wrong. A doctor brushed off Rose’s worry, claiming that Ken’s eyes may well improve in six months time.
The older Ken grew, the more obvious it was that he was having problems seeing. He was always searching for the light and people in the community were starting to stare at him. Rose took him to a different doctor who suggested they go to an eye clinic in Dar es Salaam run by our partners, cbm.
How we helped
After Rose and her husband managed to raise enough money to travel to the city, they took Ken to have his eyes tested by a specialist. It turned out that he had cataract in both his eyes.
At first, Rose didn’t believe that Ken’s sight could be cured just by a 20 minute operation in each eye which was free of charge. However, once seeing the astonishing results of the first operation, she began to believe that her son really could see again. He was now focusing on objects with the eye that was operated on.
Rose now has high hopes for her son’s future: “I’d like him to be a pastor... or a lawyer”.
