There are about 150,000 permanent blind people in Thailand.
The main reasons for their blindness are cataract, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
Access to affordable surgery is clearly an issue in Thailand. There are 6,000 patients waiting for surgery, yet 175,000 people are visually impaired people in the country- many of these are in need of surgery.
