4 Years of blindness come to an end for Liu Chang

My story

Diagnosed with congenital cataracts in both eyes, Liu passed the first four years of his life in a lonely bedroom.

Due to his blindness, kindergarten schools would not accept him, despite the best efforts of his parents to convince them otherwise. Not being able to attend school meant that Liu was not only deprived of an early education but lacked playmates his own age. His mother gave up work to look after him while his father, who had to work night and day, hardly saw him.

How we helped

Thanks to a community screening test, Liu Chang was able to finally access the eye care he needed. He had an operation straight away and knowing the family is poor, the hospital waived the charges.

Thanks to Seeing is Believing and their partner ORBIS, Liu Chang’s sight recovery has boosted his confidence and with training, he now has a good chance of fully recovering his sight and being able to live a normal life.

A life-changing cataract operation can cost as little as $30. If you would like to help people like Liu Chang, please donate here and help restore someone’s sight.
