At last, Zou Nan can see again
My story
Zou Nan’s parents did not realise how urgently she needed treatment.
Little Zou Nan was diagnosed with strabismus at the age of five, a condition in which the eyes are not properly aligned with each other.
Her parents were told by a local doctor that surgery wasn't needed and that she simply had poor vision. Considering the inconvenience of travelling to Dalian from their home in Gao Village of Deng Sha, for daily treatment they chose to keep her doing eye exercises by herself instead.
Her eyesight got worse, and within several years of having strabismus, Zou Nan's visual development lagged behind which left her with amblyopia, otherwise knows as lazy eye disorder.
How we helped
When Zou Nan's parents heard from their neighbour that his cataract was cured at Dalian He Eye Hospital, they decided to take Zou Nan to be treated. Thanks to Seeing is Believing and their partner ORBIS, Zou Nan received immediate surgery, and was cured of her eye condition.
Unfortunately, after the operation, Zou Nan's parents could not afford to continue her proper eye training service. This prevented her receiving the next 2 months of her programme and her sight began declining again.
In January 2010, Zou Nan had another operation conducted by Director Lu. Once more, her sight improved. However, Zou Nan will need long term treatment.
Her case underlines the importance of educating families about eye care treatment.
