About my charity

The statistics on blindness are staggering, but people don’t go blind by the million- they go blind one by one.

For each person the impact is enormous. Loss of sight often results in social exclusion, making blind people vulnerable to abuse, poverty and early death. Less than half of all children who lose their sight will survive to adulthood.

The figures are overwhelming. Help us to help others see by donating now.

I am taking part in a Triathlon in Hoi An, Central Vietnam, and hope you will sponsor me in aid of "Seeing is Believing" (Standard Chartered's global initiative to tackle avoidable blindness). I've never swum 1,500m in open water, and I can't ever remember knocking out 40km on a bike at one go, nor running 10km having done so! In other words, it's a genuine challenge for me.

One of the privileges of being in Vietnam has been experiencing the impact here of the Seeing is Believing projects. You can see the details at these links:

In Vietnam alone, the projects have restored sight to over 15,000 people, and have screened around 1,000,000 people for refractive errors, as well as providing sustainable eyecare for communities where none previously existed. This work is ongoing, and we are already planning our fifth phase of Seeing is Believing in Vietnam.
