About my charity

The statistics on blindness are staggering, but people don’t go blind by the million- they go blind one by one.

For each person the impact is enormous. Loss of sight often results in social exclusion, making blind people vulnerable to abuse, poverty and early death. Less than half of all children who lose their sight will survive to adulthood.

The figures are overwhelming. Help us to help others see by donating now.

On Saturday July 23, Mark Julien will run the Marina 21K to raise money for Seeing is Believing.

Seeing is Believing is a global initiative to help tackle avoidable blindness, a collaboration between Standard Chartered Bank and the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness (IAPB). We raise money to prevent and treat avoidable blindness. Every dollar raised is matched by Standard Chartered Bank – doubling our impact on the ground.

So far, we have raised over US$32 million and reached over 23 million people through our interventions. By 2012, we aim to have raised US$37 million to enable us to reach 39 million people through our projects.

Marina 21K (http://www.marina21k.com.sg/) is a half marathon set in the newly minted Bay East at Gardens by the Bay of Singapore.

On Saturday July 23, Mark Julien from the Traded Credit Risk team in Standard Chartered Bank Singapore, ran the Marina 21K to raise money for Seeing is Believing (http://www.seeingisbelieving.org.uk/). Thank you to everyone who has so generously donated. If you have not yet donated, then you can continue to do so on this page.

Mark is a member of Standard Chartered Singapore's Seeing is Believing Committee, which has set a target to raise over SGD350k in 2011. This run is one of a number of initiatives the Committee have planned this year.
