About my charity

The statistics on blindness are staggering, but people don’t go blind by the million- they go blind one by one.

For each person the impact is enormous. Loss of sight often results in social exclusion, making blind people vulnerable to abuse, poverty and early death. Less than half of all children who lose their sight will survive to adulthood.

The figures are overwhelming. Help us to help others see by donating now.

Hi,

Some of you may know that I have always wanted to climb Kilimanjaro - Africa's tallest mountain. Many of you will also know that I am not the most sporty person in the world (think school netball D team!) so this is not going to be easy! And I'm sure you all know that I am hugely proud of Seeing is Believing and am delighted to use this as an excuse to raise funds for it.

I hope my trek will raise $5,000 which, when matched by Standard Chartered, will be $10,000 and that could be enough for 166 children's cataract operations or enough to fund a programme to prevent river blindness covering 175 thousand people. The good news is all your donations go to SiB direct and then the Bank match it.

So..... I've been in training 5 times a week for probably not enough months. It's rigorous. British Military Fitness put me through the paces twice a week in Richmond Park - which seems to involve a lots of running and lots of push ups in puddles of mud (at least I hope its mud - there's a lot of wildlife in that park!). I hike Box Hill once a week - I aim to pass at least 5 OAPs on the way up the steep bit! The cross trainer is my new friend and, for fun, I add 7kg to the ruck sack and hike up and down 5 flights of stairs 30 times. The dog thinks I am mad.
