Nine months on from signing up to the Berlin Marathon in a fit of New Year's optimism, the big day is almost upon me. By my back-of-the-envelope calculations, en route i've managed to rack up about 350-ish miles of ankle-busting asphalt (about two-thirds the distance from Crystal Palace to Berlin), two new pairs of trainers, several t-shirts, and an incalculable number of jelly babies. I suspect I may also need to place an order for a new pair of knees very shortly.
Training sessions have taken me from central London to rural Devon, from baroque Vienna to (insert your own adjective here) Essex. Next stop Germany.
I'll be once again donning the ice-white trainers, ice-white sports socks-with-double-navy-cadet-stripe, and towelling head-band in aid of a good cause, and I would of course be very grateful for any contribution you can manage.
Seeing is Believing do really excellent work sorting out a lot of very basic medical care in the developing world, where loss of eyesight through easily preventable means really shouldn't be an issue. A small amount of money can go a long way here, especially as all donations are matched, meaning your money will genuinely go twice as far. Don't forget to sign up for Gift Aid too, for even more.
As this event also coincides nicely with my birthday, if for some reason you were thinking of spending any of your hard-earned cash on me, you could do worse than pop it in the kitty here. I know it would be very much appreciated, and almost certainly be put to better use.
Right. I'm off to do some more Fartleks (don't ask) in preparation for the big day.
All the best, and thanks in advance,
Sid
